Terms of Service
Last updated: October 8, 2026
These terms govern your use of Image Splitter (splitimage.im) and the Split Image Chrome extension published for use with this site. They include billing and refunds for paid AI credits, and the acceptable-use rules for AI image tools.
1) Acceptance
By using the website or the Chrome extension, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
2) Service scope
Image Splitter provides:
- Free, local browser tools — image splitting, grids, PDF, crop, rotate, flip, filters, and similar utilities. These run in your browser. They do not require an account or payment.
- Optional paid AI features — AI image upscaler, AI background remover, AI image expander, AI GIF background remover, and AI image generator (text-to-image). These upload a photo or a prompt to our servers, run a safety check, and call named third-party models listed in AI models we use.
- The Split Image Chrome extension — the same local grid-split job in a browser toolbar. It is not a separate company or a different product line.
We may update, add, or remove features over time.
Image Splitter is operated through splitimage.im as a public web utility, plus the Split Image extension listed on the Chrome Web Store. The public support, privacy, legal, refund, and content-report channel is contact@splitimage.im. Privacy details for the extension are in the Privacy Policy — Chrome extension section.
3) Lawful use only
You agree to use the service lawfully and only with content you are authorized to process. AI tools are also subject to the content standards below.
4) Account model
Core splitter and other local tools are available without account registration.
AI tools may ask you to sign in (Google or email) so we can apply a daily trial, credits, and file history in My works. Creating an account is optional. Paid credits apply only to AI features.
5) Usage limits
To protect reliability, we may enforce technical limits such as:
- Maximum input file size (currently 20 MB on the main splitter; AI tools may use a lower cap shown on that page)
- Grid/output limits (currently up to 10x10)
- Daily free AI trials and per-network caps
- Anti-abuse throttling where needed
6) Prohibited behavior
You must not:
- Use the service for illegal content or unlawful activity
- Process content without required rights
- Abuse automation to degrade service quality
- Attempt to disrupt or reverse engineer restricted service components
- Generate or upload content that violates the content standards
7) Rights and ownership
- You keep ownership of your images and of prompts you type
- You are responsible for rights clearance and lawful publication
- Site code, branding, and design remain protected intellectual property
- We do not claim extra rights to your stills beyond what we need to run the tool, store a result in My works for the published retention window, and moderate prohibited content
8) Output responsibility
You are responsible for validating output quality, sequence, and platform compatibility before public posting, printing, or commercial use. AI output can contain artifacts. You must not present generated or edited media as an unaltered photograph of a real person without that person’s rights and, where the law requires it, disclosure.
9) Third-party services
The service may rely on third-party providers for hosting, payments (Stripe), diagnostics, analytics, form handling, content moderation, and AI inference. Their terms may apply to relevant parts of the workflow. Named AI models are listed in AI models we use.
10) No warranty
The service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties to the fullest extent permitted by law.
11) Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Image Splitter and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from service use or unavailability.
12) Enforcement
We may suspend or restrict access if we reasonably detect abuse, unlawful use, or material violations of these terms, including the content standards. We may delete stored AI jobs that violate these terms.
13) Term updates
We may revise these terms. Continued use after publication means you accept the updated version. The date at the top of this page is the current version.
14) Governing law
These terms are intended to apply to use of the public website to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, without limiting any mandatory consumer protections that apply in your jurisdiction.
15) Billing, credits, and refunds
This section is the billing and refund policy for paid AI features. Local browser tools (split, PDF, crop, filters, and the Chrome extension) are free of charge. No payment is taken for those tools, so a refund policy does not apply to them: there is nothing to refund.
Credits and plans
The AI tools share one credit wallet:
| Plan | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Daily trial | $0 after sign-in | One Standard AI run per UTC day (upscale, cutout, or expand). The AI image generator also gives three guest images per UTC day and three more after sign-in. |
| One-time pack | $5.99 USD | 150 credits, valid 12 months from purchase. Not a subscription. |
| Monthly | $9.99 USD / month | 300 credits each billing month. Unused monthly credits do not roll over. Cancel anytime from Billing. Ad-free on tool pages while the subscription is active. |
Typical costs (subject to the on-page label):
- 1 credit — Standard upscale, Standard cutout, Standard expand, one AI-generated JPEG, or a Standard GIF cut
- 2 credits — cutout Pro
- 3 credits — upscale Pro or expand Pro
Checkout is Stripe Checkout. We do not store your card number on splitimage.im. Prices are shown in USD before you pay.
Credits are consumed when a job succeeds. If moderation blocks the input, or the model fails, we restore the reserved credit. Adult or prohibited content never uses a credit.
Pack credits expire 12 months after purchase. Monthly credits expire at the end of that billing period.
Refund policy
All credit purchases are generally non-refundable after credits from that purchase have been consumed. The following exceptions apply:
- Unused pack within 14 days: you may request a full refund of a one-time credit pack within 14 days of purchase if no paid credit from that pack has been used.
- Duplicate or erroneous charge: full refund of the duplicate or erroneous amount.
- Our technical failure: if paid AI is unavailable because of a fault on our side and we cannot complete a paid run, we restore the credit. If the whole pack or month cannot be used for that reason, email us for a refund.
- Statutory rights (EU / UK / AU and similar): a 14-day withdrawal right for first-time distance purchases is preserved where the law gives it, and is waived once you first use a paid credit from that purchase (digital content begun with your consent). Mandatory consumer law still applies.
- Monthly subscription: cancel anytime in Billing. Cancellation stops the next renewal. Access and remaining monthly credits continue until the end of the current period. Unused subscription time is not refunded in cash, except where the law requires it or the charge was unauthorized.
- Consumed credits are not refunded as cash. A blocked or failed run already returns the credit to the wallet.
Refunds, when approved, go back to the original payment method through Stripe. Card refunds typically appear in 3–10 business days (and no later than 14 business days), depending on your bank.
How to request a refund
Email contact@splitimage.im with:
- the account email you used at checkout
- the Stripe invoice number or payment date
- whether you want a pack refund or help with a subscription
- a short reason
We aim to reply within 1–2 business days. Chargebacks are a last resort; write to us first so we can refund a qualifying unused pack without a dispute.
16) Acceptable use for AI (content standards)
This acceptable-use policy applies to AI Image Upscaler, AI Background Remover, AI Image Expander, AI GIF Background Remover, and AI Image Generator (text-to-image), including prompts, uploads, and outputs.
You must not generate, upload, request, or store any of the following:
- Pornography / NSFW — sexual content, sexual nudity, genitals, sexual acts, pornography, hentai, or sexual advertising.
- Violence / gore — real-world graphic injury, real gore, real dead bodies, or real extreme bloody violence. Stylized game or cartoon combat is not, by itself, this category.
- Hate speech — content that attacks or dehumanizes a person or group based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, caste, sex, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or similar protected characteristics.
- Child sexual exploitation and child-unsafe content (CSAM) — any sexual, nude, or exploitative content involving anyone 17 or under, or anyone who appears to be a minor, including fictional, illustrated, or AI-generated depictions. We have zero tolerance. We will remove it, may ban the account, and will report to the authorities where the law requires.
- Deepfakes / impersonation — realistic images of a real person that fake their words, acts, or appearance in order to deceive, defame, commit fraud, or exploit, including non-consensual intimate imagery.
- Copyright / trademark infringement — content you do not have the right to use, including uploads of other people’s photos and prompts whose purpose is to copy a protected character, logo, or trademark for passing off.
We may refuse or remove other illegal content (fraud, malware, terrorist content, and similar) under section 6.
User reporting
To report prohibited AI content, a rights issue, or a mistaken block:
- Email contact@splitimage.im with the URL, approximate time, and a short description. Attach a screenshot if you can.
- Use Feedback in the site header on any page (same inbox).
- For copyright, include your contact details, the work you own, the URL, and a good-faith statement that you are authorized to make the complaint.
Do not send CSAM files to us by email. Describe the URL and time; we will retrieve what we already stored, if anything, through our own systems.
We aim to acknowledge reports within 1–2 business days.
Content moderation
How we review AI jobs:
- Automated check before inference. Uploads and, where applicable, prompts are scanned for adult and prohibited content. Primary scanner: SeeAPI image moderation. If that result is undecided, we may use SenseNova and Falcons AI NSFW image detection (Replicate). The pipeline fails closed: if the check cannot finish, we do not run the model and we do not keep the file as a successful work.
- Prompt filters on the AI image generator for obvious sexual or child-unsafe terms.
- No credit is taken for a blocked or failed run.
- Human review. Flagged files can be reviewed in our internal moderation queue. We may delete the job, ban the account, and keep a limited record needed to handle the report or a legal request.
- Mistakes. If a safe photo or prompt is blocked, use Feedback or email contact@splitimage.im and we will look at it.
We do not guarantee that every violation is caught automatically. Reporting still matters.
17) AI models we use
We disclose the actual models behind paid AI features. We do not hide them behind phrases such as “advanced model” or “30+ models.”
