What this Twitter banner size tool does
A Twitter banner size tool takes one photo and writes a file at the pixels X Help lists for the wide image at the top of a profile. That default is 1500×500, a 3:1 JPG, PNG, or GIF. X calls it a header photo and also a banner. The blue frame stays put. You drag the photo underneath and use Zoom so a skyline, a storefront, or a face sits in the middle band that still shows after the round profile picture overlaps the lower left.
The same page also switches to a Twitter Header card at the same 1500×500, a profile photo at 400×400, a landscape post at 1600×900, a portrait post at 1080×1350, or a link card at 1200×628. Open Resize Template and the list still has Facebook Cover, LinkedIn Personal Banner, Discord Server Banner, and YouTube Banner — each card is a width and height, not a Canva file.
The picture stays in this tab. JPG, PNG, and WebP come off the preview. This is not a live check of x.com, it does not read a profile URL, and it does not publish the header for you.
Twitter banner size, X header size, and the overlap
X Help says the header photo — also known as a banner — is 1500×500 pixels. That is the Twitter banner size this page writes by default. The rebrand from Twitter to X did not change those pixels. People search twitter banner size, twitter header size, and x banner size for the same strip at the top of a profile.
X also warns that about 60 pixels at the top and bottom can disappear on some monitors and browsers, even when the file is the recommended size. Keep names and logos in the middle band of the 1500×500 frame. On desktop the round profile photo sits on the lower left of the banner; on many phones it sits under the banner toward the bottom center. The circle on this crop marks that disc so a wordmark is not hidden under the avatar.
After the photo is in the tab, open Size, then Resize Template. Stay on the X (Twitter) row and scroll the cards. Twitter Banner, Twitter Header, profile photo, post, portrait post, and link card are already in that list. Those cards change the crop ratio so you do not have to type pixels. The Twitter banner size default stays 1500×500 until you pick another card.
These are the X sizes already in Size. Scroll the X (Twitter) row to pick one.
| X card | Pixels | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Twitter Banner | 1500×500 | Profile header (default, 3:1) |
| Twitter Header | 1500×500 | Same file — X Help name |
| Profile Photo | 400×400 | Round avatar upload |
| X Post | 1600×900 | Landscape photo in a post |
| Portrait Post | 1080×1350 | Tall photo in a post |
| Link Card | 1200×628 | Link preview image |
Banner controls
One photo, a Twitter banner size of 1500×500 by default, a fixed frame you drag the photo in, a file you can take.
1500×500 by default
The crop box opens at the Twitter banner size X recommends for a header photo. The circle on the frame marks the profile picture so a wordmark is not hidden under the avatar.
Header, profile, and post cards
Twitter Header keeps 1500×500. Profile photo is 400×400. A landscape post is 1600×900. Open Size and scroll that X (Twitter) row. Facebook Cover, LinkedIn Banner, Discord Banner, and YouTube Banner stay in the template list when the same photo has to go elsewhere.
Drag the photo and Zoom 100–300%
The frame stays still. You move the photo under it and raise Zoom to crop tighter. For a Twitter banner size of 1500×500, keep faces and logos out of the top and bottom ~60 px and away from the lower-left circle.
Download in this tab
JPG, PNG, or WebP. The preview is the file. Nothing is sent to a server before you save it. X still compresses the upload; Image Compressor is the page if the file is still heavy.
How to crop a Twitter banner size
Three moves. The Twitter banner size crop updates as soon as you pick a size.
Add the photo
Drop a JPG, PNG, or WebP, browse for it, or paste it. A wide landscape is easier to fit into 1500×500 than a tall phone selfie.
Pick a size and crop
Stay on Twitter Banner for 1500×500, or open Size → Resize Template, stay on X (Twitter), and scroll to Twitter Header, profile 400×400, or another X card. Drag the photo under the blue frame and use Zoom. Watch the circle and the shaded top and bottom strips.
Download the file
Save JPG or PNG. Upload that 1500×500 file from Edit profile on X. This page does not log you into X.
Why crop the Twitter banner size here
X will crop and compress the file again on desktop and mobile. Seeing that crop before you upload saves a round trip in Edit profile.
You see the profile-photo overlap
The round avatar covers the lower left of a Twitter banner size on desktop. The circle on this crop shows that disc so a wordmark is not hidden under the photo.
You see the 60 px trim
X Help says about 60 pixels at the top and bottom of a 1500×500 header can disappear on some screens. The shaded strips on this crop mark that band so type is not sitting on the edge.
No account
There is no signup, no watermark, and no credit charge for another photo. X login is X’s gate, not this page’s.

The resize runs in the browser. Close the tab and the photo is gone with it.
Tips and limits
This page handles the Twitter banner. For display names and type you might place on the header, copy a style from a Twitter font generator.
- On a Twitter banner size of 1500×500, keep type and logos in the middle band. X can crop about 60 pixels from the top and bottom on some displays. A short line of type reads; a paragraph does not.
- A vertical phone photo can still fill a Twitter banner size of 1500×500, but most of the top and bottom will be cropped away. A landscape source wastes less of the picture.
- X accepts JPG, PNG, or GIF for a header. Animated GIFs freeze on the first frame. This page writes a still JPG, PNG, or WebP. It does not export an animated header.
- This page resizes still images to a Twitter banner size. It does not open X, does not post the header, and does not write a PSD, a Canva project, or a header video. Splitting a photo into tweet tiles is a different page: X Image Splitter.
Where this file gets used
Profile header first. The same photo can switch to a profile photo, a post size, or another platform size from the template list.
Profile banner / header
A 1500×500 Twitter banner size for the header on a personal or brand profile. Place the important part away from the avatar circle and the top and bottom strips here, then upload the file in Edit profile on X.
Profile photo and posts
Switch to 400×400 when the file is the round avatar, 1600×900 for a landscape post, or 1080×1350 for a tall post. Those canvases are not the header. Do not upload a 1500×500 strip as a profile photo.
Other platforms
Facebook Cover is 851×315. LinkedIn Personal Banner is 1584×396. Discord Server Banner is 960×540. YouTube Banner is 2560×1440. Open Size and scroll those cards. Twitter Banner 1500×500 stays the default.
What this page will not do
This Twitter banner size page is not X. It does not log in, does not publish, and does not read your profile. You take the file and upload it there. It also does not accept an x.com URL as input — drop a photo you already have.
It is not the Tap-the-Post splitter. X Image Splitter is the page that cuts one picture into 2 or 4 tiles for a tweet. Image Resizer is the page for percentage scale and a bulk of photos. Crop Image is the page for a freeform box with no template. Facebook Cover Size, LinkedIn Banner Size, Discord Banner Size, and YouTube Banner Resizer are the pages whose defaults match those platforms.
It does not export an animated GIF header, PSD, SVG, or video. It does not generate AI banner art from a prompt, and it is not a Canva template picker. A photo you already have is the input.
Twitter banner size questions
What is the Twitter banner size?
X Help lists a header photo, also known as a banner, at 1500×500 pixels (3:1). That is the Twitter banner size this page writes by default. Twitter Header on this page is the same 1500×500 file.
What is the Twitter header size in pixels?
1500 pixels wide by 500 pixels tall. X still uses that size after the rebrand. The download filename includes 1500x500 so you can check the file before you upload it.
Is the X banner size the same as Twitter banner size?
Yes. X is the current name for Twitter. The header pixels did not change. People search both phrases for the same 1500×500 strip. This page leads with Twitter banner size because that is the search, and it labels the platform X in the title.
Is 1500×500 the Twitter banner size?
Yes. 1500×500 is the upload X recommends, and it is the default on this page. Some older guides still list 1500×500 from the Twitter years. Use that file, not the outdated 1024×512 spec.
What is the Twitter banner size for mobile?
X keeps one 1500×500 file. A phone can trim about 60 pixels from the top and bottom, so the visible slice is closer to 1500×380. Keep names and logos in the middle of the Twitter banner size frame here, then check the header on a phone after you upload.
Where should I put text on a Twitter banner?
In the middle band of the 1500×500 canvas. Leave the top and bottom ~60 px as background. Leave the lower left clear of type because the round profile photo sits there on desktop.
What is the X profile picture size?
X recommends 400×400 pixels for the profile photo, shown as a circle. Switch to X Profile Photo on this page. The header stays 1500×500; do not upload the banner file as the avatar.
What is the Twitter banner size ratio?
1500×500 is 3:1. That is the Twitter banner size ratio. A landscape post at 1600×900 is 16:9. Mixing those ratios is why a header file looks wrong as a post image.
How do I convert a photo to Twitter banner size?
Drop the photo on this page, stay on Twitter Banner so the frame is 1500×500, drag the picture until the part you want sits in the middle, then download JPG or PNG. Upload that file in Edit profile on X. This page does not open X for you.
Does the photo get uploaded?
No. The Twitter banner size crop runs in this tab. The picture is not sent to a server before you download the file. Close the tab and the bytes leave with it.
Is this Twitter banner size crop free?
Yes. There is no account, no watermark, and no charge to crop a photo and save it. You can open another picture after the first one. Credits on this site are for the paid AI tools, not for this resize.
What file format should I use?
JPG, PNG, or WebP come off this page. X accepts JPG, PNG, or GIF for a header. Animated GIFs do not animate in headers. This crop writes a still file. Open Image Compressor if the JPG is still heavy, then upload that smaller file on X.
Can I type a custom size?
Yes. Open Custom and type width and height in pixels, up to 8192 on a side. The crop box follows that ratio. For X itself, stay on the official cards so the file matches the Twitter banner size, profile, or post slot you will use.
Is this the same as the X image splitter?
No. This page crops one photo to a Twitter banner size of 1500×500. X Image Splitter cuts one picture into 2 or 4 tiles for the Tap-the-Post trend. Use the splitter when you want a tweet grid, not a profile header.
Can I resize for Facebook, LinkedIn, Discord, or YouTube here too?
Yes. After the photo is open, Resize Template has Facebook Cover, LinkedIn Personal Banner, Discord Server Banner, YouTube Banner, Instagram, and other pixel cards. The Twitter banner size 1500×500 is the default. Pick the card that matches where the file will go.
